Experimental Particle Physics Social Stuff

The EPP Group is a social one. A lot of this is the result of working in a lab together, and often living together while overseas. The group regularly has drinks in the lab or at the Deep Dish bar at the Graduate Centre on Fridays. If you have any questions about what the group is like feel free to chat to anyone of the students. Our contact details can be found at the Group Members page.

In December 2003, we held a Christmas/Reunion BBQ. Quite a few of the old students made it, despite a somewhat grey December day. Jasna's photos can be found here.

We've competed as a group a few times in the PPSS Trivia Night. Here are some photos from May and October 2002.

Every December Australian Experimental High Energy Physicsists (OzHEP rather than AusHEP which includes theory) get together. This brings together academics, post-docs, and postgraduate and honours students from EPP here in Melbourne, from the Falkiner High Energy group at the University of Sydney and the Centre for Medical Radiation Physics at the University of Wollongong. Rotating between the three groups, this year the workshop was held at the University of Sydney. Below is a photo from the conference dinner. More can be found here.

The images at the top of the page are:
- a PET (Positron Emission Tomography) image of a human brain;
- tracks left by charged particles as they traverse a bubble chamber;
- and the creation of the Higgs (by the LHC), and decay to a τ+ τ- pair.
