Workshop on High Energy Physics Data Grid, KEK, Japan [6 Dec 2004]
With the support of Stephen McMahon from the ANU Supercomputing Facility, we demonstrated the use of SRB (storage resource broker) to federate data storage facilities within Asia, Poland, and Australia. We reported on the use of several Australian computing facilities (APAC, VPAC, AC3, Melbourne University ARC) and SRB to aid in the production of simulation data for the Belle collaboration. We demonstrated a Data Grid meta-scheduler (GQSched) that will eventually coordinated use of APAC National Grid resources for our applications.

APAC Partnership Project [17 May 2004]
Our application for an APAC funded project for "Experimental and Theoretical HEP Data Grid" has been approved. Melbourne University will receive funding for 3 year on this project to work closely with eResearch infrastructure providers such as APAC, VPAC, SAPAC, and the ANUSF.

Global Grid Forum 10 [15 Mar 2004]
The Australian efforts in high energy physics and the grid services were presented at the 10th Global Grid Forum workshop, specifically at the "Grid Services for Particle and Nuclear Physics Applications" workshop (workshop agenda). See documents and projects for details.

ARC Grant Awarded [20 Oct 2003]
The Experimental Particle Physics group, together with the department of Computer Science, was awarded a 3 year ARC Discovery Project grant towards "The development of Data Grids for High Energy Physics". The focus of this effort will be towards the LHC Computing Grid and enabling eScience within the European Data Grid framework.

APAC03 Demonstration [29 Sept 2003]
The upgrade Belle Analysis Data Grid testbed, hardware supplied by IBM Asia Pacific, was again used to demonstrate our latest developments in Data Grid tools. Our HEP analysis portal and Data Catalog browser were used for Monte Carlo event generation and analysis of data. Demonstrations took place at the IBM booth and at AusGrid2003.

Press Coverage [6 June 2003]
A number of articles have been released following the Australian Belle Data Grid demonstration at the recent PRAGMA workshop. The full articles can be found at ZDNet (IT media), The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Age.

PRAGMA Demonstration [5 June 2003]
An Australian Data Grid testbed for performing Belle analysis was successfully demonstrated at the international PRAGMA workshop. Generation of simulated data and subsequent analysis of this data was demonstrated using existing Grid tools and technologies developed at the University of Melbourne. more...
