Grid Research Activities

Projects

The projects in which we are involved:

• Dynamic OS Cluster Environment
  Dynamically user requested OS environments within a cluster using Xen VM (and SLC3).
• The Australiana Belle Analysis Data Grid project
• The ATLAS Data Challenges Melbourne University participation in this project is lead by the MARCC group.
• HEPGrid Resource Broker project
  This project is lead by Rajkumar Buyya.
• High Energy Physics Analysis Grid Agents
  RMIT are undertaking this project lead by Lin Padgham.
• Agent Ontologies within High Energy Physics grids
  The project is lead by Leon Sterling and Muthukkaruppan Annamalai of Melbourne University's Computer Science Department.

Partners

The University of Melbourne, Experimental Particle Physics group (EPP) is participating in a number of Grid projects. These projects are collaborative efforts in conjunction with the following organisations:

• Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing (VPAC)
  This organisation has provided funding for projects and computing facilities.
• Melbourne Advanced Research Computing Centre (MARCC)
  This is the University of Melbourne's high-performance computing facility for research. They provide hardware and technical support for EPP projects as well as being involved internationally in grid projects.
• Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing (APAC)
  This organisation is involved in the development of eScience and Grid infrastructure within Australia, and has provided us access to the ANU mass data storage facility (petabyte capable). EPP members can apply for accounts here.
• University of Melborne, Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering
  Several grid projects within the department are investigating particle physics as a practical test case. See their Agent Lab and the research of Rajkumar Buyya.
• Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, School of Computer Science and Information Technology
  The school is developing grid agents to aid in particle physics analysis as test case for agent technology. View their projects.
• University of Adelaide, Computer Science
  Members of the Distributed and High-Performance Computing group are working with us to provide a unified entrance point for information queries within the Grid, called the Query Engine.
