The Storage Element (SE)

Where the CE provides a consistent interface and uniform access to the available computing resources, the storage element aims to do the same for large storage spaces. Accordingly the SE provides access to large disk arrays, Mass Storage Systems (MSS) and the like. Provision of a SE necessarily enables a GSIFTP server which offers an FTP service (which is GSI security enhanced) for file transfer. For the remote access of files (general file management, not just file transfer) on storage elements, the Remote File Input/Output Protocal (RFIO) is also provided.
